Course description: The Vocational Nursing program is fully approved by the Texas Board of
Nursing (BON) and is a certificate program. This program is designed to prepare entry-level
practitioners to provide direct care to patients of all age groups under the supervision of a
registered nurse or licensed physician. Emphasis is placed upon the ability to make sound
judgements based on the knowledge of scientific principles and the ability to utilize technical
skills in a variety of settings.
Course prerequisites: Successful Completion of all courses of semester one and two of the
Vocational Nursing program.

At the successful completion of this course the student will be able to:

-Function within nurse’s scope of practice and in accordance with the policies and procedures.

-Use clinical reasoning/established evidence-based policies as the basis for decision making.
-Assist in determining physical and mental health status/needs/preferences of
culturally/ethnically/socially diverse patients/families.
-Report data to assist identification of problems/formulation of goals/outcomes and plans of
care patients/families/health care team.

-Implement measures to promote quality/safe environment for patients/self/others.
