Course description: An introduction to the healthcare system and nurse practice settings, as well as the nurse-client relationship. Provides a basic understanding of cultural aspects of nursing care and caring for that patient as well as the family. Summary of providing nutritional needs to clients as well as understanding of the adult developmental process. Managing and coordinating client care and maintaining professionalism and a safe environment. Analyzing and understanding of pain management, prevention of falls, immobility, cognitive dysfunction and care of the older adult. Focus on connective tissue disorders, fractures, amputations, diabetes, cancer and dementia/mental illness.
Course prerequisites: Anatomy and Physiology for Allied Health, or may take course while enrolled in Anatomy and Physiology for Allied Health.

90-100 = A

Attendance Policy:
Students are expected to attend all classes and are responsible for all announcements and course content. Students may be absent a maximum of twice during the semester per course, unless the course meets for only 8 weeks in which case students may only miss one class. There are no partial absences; if you miss part of the class, an absence will be recorded. Students are expected to take all tests as scheduled. If tardy for an exam, the faculty may deny the student entry to the testing site. If a student is unable to take an exam at the appointed time, he/she must schedule a make-up exam with the professor of the course.
Withdrawal Policy
A student may withdraw from a course on or after the official date of record. It is the student’s responsibility to initiate and complete a Withdrawal Request Form.
Last day to withdraw from the course with a “W” is: September 5th
