INSTITUTIONAL LEARNING GOALS

PROGRAM PURPOSE STATEMENT

NCTC seeks to implement its goal of providing quality technical programs leading directly to careers in semi-skilled and skilled occupations, and quality technical education programs up to two years in length leading to certificates and associate degrees by offering a coherent sequence of courses with appropriate breadth and depth to prepare students for success in the workforce.

 

DEPARTMENTAL PURPOSE STATEMENT

To prepare Vocational Nursing students for licensure and advanced degrees in health sciences is the purpose of the department.

  1. Calculate all types of drug dosages including conversions from one system to another.
  2. Identify the legal aspects of drug administration.
  3. Utilize nomenclature associated with Pharmacology.
  4. Utilize sources of drug information to research prescribed medications.
  5. Identify the SIX RIGHTS of medication administration during the preparation, administration, and documentation of medication therapy.
  6. Identify the following information of the major drug groups:
  1. Drug actions
  2. Drug side effects to report
  3. Nursing actions and interventions appropriate for each drug group.
  4. Drug interactions.
