Course Description (NCTC Catalog): The study of childhood diseases and childcare from infancy through adolescence.  Focus on the care of the well and the ill child utilizing the nursing process.

                                                       

Course Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of all Level 1 and Level 2 for Spring admission.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES

 

At the successful completion of this course the student will be able to:

 

1.      The student will be able to identify normal growth and development of the child from infancy through adolescence

2.      The student will be able to identify the more common disease conditions and health problems and the nursing care appropriate for that aged child.

3.      Define nutritional and safety needs of the child from infancy to adolescence.

4.      Utilize the nursing process to plan the care for specific conditions for a sick child.

5.      Describe the impact of cultural and ethnic influences on the nursing process as related to childcare issues.

6.      Describe the procedure involved in the discharge planning process of the hospitalized child.

 

 

WECM Outcomes:

  1. Identify safety principles related to childcare; discuss primary nursing care of the pediatric patient and family during health and disease

2.      Apply concepts of growth and development to the care of pediatric patients utilizing the nursing process

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Attendance is expected in all VNSG courses.  Students in an 8 week theory course are allowed one absence only during the course.

 

 

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE

Class will meet on Wednesday (Corinth) and Thursday (Gainesville) beginning January 18, 2017 beginning at 0800.  Final exam will be given the week of March 5th.

 

 

Last day to withdraw from a course with a “W” is April 6 2017.
