Welcome to Sociology 1301 Online

Hello, I am Dan Hampton – your Online instructor for the Spring 2018 semester.

I would like to welcome you to the Online course Contemporary Social Problems 1301.

Each of you has a personal reason for taking this course. I do hope the information contained in the 16 'class' week session will help you in your personal, academic and professional endeavors. (there are actually 17 weeks in this semester due to Spring Break but only 16 class weeks).
I have made every attempt to construct the course in a reoccurring pattern. In other words, certain activities occur and reoccur in a predictable pattern. I hesitate to call this a routine, however, a routine helps you to know what and when things are scheduled and should help you to plan accordingly.

If you are a special needs student, have contacted NCTC, and have the necessary forms / documents, please notify me as quickly as possible. I can make the necessary accommodations for you in advance; however, I cannot backtrack for any completed activities.

Don’t hesitate to contact me with questions, comments, and/or concerns about the course. If you have technical questions about Canvas, you should use the Submit Ticket, or call, Canvas Support/Help desk. I can answer some technical questions but I prefer to default to NCTC Tech Support.

ONE MORE THING: Since this is an Online course and we do not have the benefit of seeing each other 'face-to-face', you can earn Extra Credit points by posting your profile with picture in Canvas. Your photo will automatically display in this course.
To earn the Extra Credit Points please upload you actual 'face' picture - no avatars or emojis. The picture must be such as to be able to identify you.
Go to your Canvas student Profile to upload your picture. It will automatically upload to the course.
I look forward to this semester with you.

Thank you,
Dan Hampton
