Course Description (NCTC Catalog):
The scientific study of human society, including ways in which groups, social institutions, and individuals affect each other. Causes of social stability and social change are explored through the application of various theoretical perspectives, key concepts, and related research methods of sociology. Analysis of social issues in their institutional context may include topics such as social stratification, gender, race/ethnicity, and deviance.

***Four in-class exams are given, but students are only required to take three. Six short online quizzes are given, and students are allowed two attempts. Exams and quizzes are primarily multiple-choice, with some true/false or listing. Quizzes are meant to help students gauge their readiness for upcoming exams. The research project is in the form of a Power Point. Since students in this class often choose to research rather personal subjects which have affected them in some way, students will not present in front of the class; only I will see the completed project. Two small extra credit options are offered. A more detailed class syllabus is posted in Canvas and available the first day of the semester. The class syllabus in Canvas, versus this generic NCTC course syllabus, includes specifics on chapters, assignments, and all class policies for Mrs. Stoutmeyer. ***

ATTENDANCE POLICY
Attendance is key for doing well in this course. Students do not receive a separate attendance grade; however, I take attendance each day as required by NCTC.
