Description

Preparation of licensed nurses/technicians for employment in dialysis facilities for national certification. Contents include history and terminology of dialysis; anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of the renal system; laboratory tests specific to the dialysis patient; acute and chronic renal failure, hepatitis and CDC recommendations; specialization skills in the dialysis field; and psychosocial aspects in the care of the dialysis patient.

Upon course completion, students will be able to discuss the history and terminology of dialysis; explain the anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology of the renal system; describe laboratory tests specific to the dialysis patient; discuss acute and chronic renal failure; discuss hepatitis and CDC recommendations; and examine psychosocial aspects in the care of dialysis patients.
