Description

A study of the house as a complex interrelated system of people, building technologies, and the environment. Emphasizes residential building techniques and how they affect the needs for energy, water, and materials while providing a safe, healthy, and comfortable home.
32 lecture hours + 32 laboratory hours.

At the conclusion of the course a student will be able to: Discuss the whole house approach to home construction using basic strategies to build energy-efficient, safe, and healthy homes with a variety of materials; explain the movement in different climates of heat, moisture, and air through the building enclosure; and identify methods homeowners and building professionals use to contribute to the construction of resource-efficient, safe, healthy, and comfortable homes while minimizing the impact on the environment.
