8 Weekly quizzes @ 20 pts. 160
8 Reflect Assignment @ 20 pts. 160

Total Possible Points = 600
Grades are determined on the following basis:
A=90% 540 points or higher
B-80-89% 480-539 points
C=70-79% 420-479 points
D=60-69% 360-419 points
F=Below 60% Below 360 points
Reflections: Eight Weekly Reflections assignments will be required and are worth 20 points each. These are found at the end of each chapter. Students are to respond to the Reflection prompt. These assignments are very brief typewritten assignments (1 to 2 paragraphs). See syllabus for due dates. This assignment will be turned in on Canvas. Late assignments will not be accepted.
Group Presentation: Groups and topics TBA.
Weekly Quizzes: This course will have 8 Weekly Quizzes worth 20 points each. These can be accessed via Canvas and are taken after associated chapter reading has been completed.
See syllabus for due dates. No makeup assessments will be allowed.
Lifespan Development Assignment: Details and instructions for this assignment will be posted in Canvas. This assignment should be turned in via canvas. Late assignments will not be accepted.
Class Participation/Attendance: Attend and actively participate in all classes and discussions. Class participation points are based on this requirement
STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the successful completion of this course the student will be able to:

Describe the stages of the developing person at different periods of the life span from birth to death.
|
2.

Discuss the social, political, economic, and cultural forces that affect the development process of the individual.
|
3.

Identify factors of responsible personal behavior with regard to issues such as sexual activity, substance abuse, marriage and parenting.
|
4.
|
Explain the biosocial, cognitive and psychological influences throughout the lifespan as an ongoing set of processes, involving both continuity and change.
|
5.
|
Describe the different developmental perspectives of the major theories of development (i.e. cognitive, learning, humanistic and psychodynamic).
|
6.
|
Identify examples of some of the cultural and ethnic differences that influence development throughout the lifespan.
|
7.
|
Discuss the various causes or reasons for disturbances in the developmental process.
|

ATTENDANCE POLICY
Attendance is expected and will be taken only during the first 15 minutes of class. After this time, you will be considered late and have to sign at end of class. Failure to do so, will result in being marked absent. Academic policies relating to attendance are followed as identified in the NCTC Student Handbook

- As such, please complete assigned reading and activities prior to class, and be prepared to make inquires about anything not fully understood.
- Attend and actively participate in all classes and discussions. Class participation points are based on this requirement.

- Reflect, through your behavior and demeanor, the dignity and respect befitting an adult
