GRADING CRITERIA

A = 1000-900 pts, B = 899-800 pts, C = 799-700 pts, D = 699-600 pts, F = below 600 pts

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Regular attendance and active, prepared participation of all students is essential. There are no excused absences. Students who miss more than 20% of the course (equivalent to two classes in a 4-week course) may receive an F. If you find yourself in this situation, please communicate with the instructor; however, it is your responsibility to drop yourself.  Students are required to complete/pass NCTC1001 within earning 15 credit hours; those who drop must re-enroll in the next long semester (fall/spring) or a registration hold will be placed on your account.

Documents of accidents, court appearances, and other emergency type situations must be presented to the instructor for consideration. Appointments and making up tests in another class are not viable excuses.

The last day to withdraw from a first 8-week course with a “W” is September 27, 2018.

DISABILITY SERVICES (Office for Students with Disabilities)

The Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) provides support services for students with disabilities, students enrolled in technical areas of study, and students who are classified as special populations (i.e. single parents).

Support services for students with disabilities might include appropriate and reasonable accommodations, or they may be in the form of personal counseling, academic counseling, career counseling, etc.  Furthermore, OSD Counselors work with students to encourage self-advocacy and promote empowerment. The Counselors also provides resource information, disability-related information, and adaptive technology for students who qualify.

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY

Scholastic dishonesty shall include, but is not limited to cheating, plagiarism, academic falsification, intellectual property dishonesty, academic dishonesty facilitation and collusion.  Faculty members may document and bring charges against a student who is engaged in or is suspected to be engaged in academic dishonesty. Student Success Center

The Student Success Center is designed to help all students at NCTC develop tools to achieve their academic goals. The center links students to FREE tutoring, including a Writing Center, a Math Lab, and free online tutoring in the evening.  The program helps students acclimate to college by providing students free interactive workshops. Student Success offers academic coaching, tutoring, including a Writing Center, and a Math Lab to assist new students acclimate to college by providing computer lab services for prospective students.

Completion Center

The NCTC Completion Center is a comprehensive student engagement program that increases retention and completion rates of first-time, low income students. Services include:

success coaching to address students’ academic and non-academic challenges and issues; success seminars, and a centralized career readiness and job placement program.

Counseling & Advising

Counseling and Advising  staff offer a variety of services to current and prospective students, such as College 101, placement testing, academic advising and course registration, transfer assistance, and College Success seminars (Time Management, Study Skills, Test Anxiety, Choosing a Major, Learning Style Strategies, Career Exploration) and much more.

CONNECT for Success (Early Alert) and CARES

The NCTC Early Alert program has been established to assist students who are at risk of failing or withdrawing from a course. Your instructor may refer you to this program if you are missing assignments, failing tests, excessively absent, or have personal circumstances impacting your academic performance. If submitted as an Early Alert you will be notified via your NCTC e-mail address and then contacted by a Counseling and Advising advisor or counselor to discuss possible strategies for completing your course successfully.

The NCTC CARES (Campus Assessment Response Evaluation Services) Team addresses behavior which may be disruptive, harmful or pose a threat to the health and safety of the NCTC community -- such as stalking, harassment, physical or emotional abuse, violent or threatening behavior, or self-harm. As a student, you have the ability to report concerning behavior which could impact your own safety or the safety of another NCTC student. Just click the NCTC CARES Team logo posted on MyNCTC, or send an e-mail to CARESTeam@nctc.edu.  As always, if you feel there is an immediate threat to your own safety or welfare (or to another student), please call 911 immediately.

Library Services

NCTC Libraries provide over 45,000 items across five campuses to serve the research needs of students, faculty, and staff. Many of these materials, including media items, may be checked out for a period of time for use outside the library. Tobacco-Free Campus

NCTC restricts the use of all tobacco products including cigarettes, cigars, pipes and smokeless tobacco on campus property.
