Course description: The NCBO supports students in developing skills, strategies, and reasoning needed to succeed in mathematics, including communication and appropriate use of technology. Topics include the study of numeracy and the real number system; algebraic concepts, notation, and reasoning; quantitative relationships; mathematical models; and problem solving. This course does not count toward graduation at NCTC.
Course prerequisites: Pass Math 0305 with a “C” or better, or earn satisfactory TSI Assessment placement score, or earn satisfactory placement score on another approved assessment.

- Required Technology for Synchronous online (0370): Computer with a web camera, headphones with a microphone, dependable internet resource.

Each week instructors have time set aside to meet with students outside of class. (Traditionally these times have been called “office hours”.) This is a time when a student may ask questions regarding the class, or discuss a particular problem/topic with an instructor one-on-one. Student hours may be held in-person or online. - Scheduling In-Person Office Hours: Students who wish to meet in-person with the instructor, please send an email to cboaz@nctc.edu to request the desired date and time from the listing above. Students may also choose to stop by my office before or after class.
- Asking Questions using Email: Students are always welcome to communicate their questions or concerns using their preferred Lion Pride Email account. Students may also send questions using the Pearson ‘Ask the Instructor’ option available in each homework component. Students are expected to clearly identify themselves and use professional communication skills.
MATH TUTORING LAB
Students who need help with any math class can visit the NCTC Mathematics Lab to receive assistance. There are math tutors available on every campus and online. SUMMARY OF COURSE ASSIGNMENTS

End of Course Score in Math 1332 70% or better = PASS; less than 70% = FAIL
Final grade scale: The NCBM course will be graded on a P/F basis determined by the end of course grade in the corresponding MATH 1332 course and completion of assignments in the NCBM course. Explanation of PASS/FAIL End of Course scoring: Students will need to earn a passing grade in both the NCBM portion as well as the Master course Math 1332. The NCBM comes with a PASS/FAIL end of course grade based on your end of course performance in the Master course: Math 1332 & your successful completion of the assignments in the NCBM course. PASS is defined as earning an end of course score of 70% or better in each course. FAIL is defined as earning an end of course score of less than 70% in the Master course.
Attendance/Participation: Failure to attend the NCBM portion of the course will likely impact your success in the MATH course. A student may be dropped for non-attendance of the NCBM course which would result in being dropped from the MATH course.
Late work policy: Do not ask to extend due dates. There will be no make-up assignments.

COURSE POLICIES
Academic Integrity Policy:
Scholastic dishonesty shall include, but is not limited to cheating, plagiarism, academic falsification, intellectual property dishonesty, academic dishonesty facilitation, and collusion. The use of online math solvers with submitted work is considered academic dishonesty. Faculty members may document and bring charges against a student who is engaged in or is suspected to be engaged in academic dishonesty. Consequences for academic dishonesty may include:
- Zero on the assignment
- Failing grade for the course
Attendance Policy:

Withdrawal Policy
A student may withdraw from a course on or after the official date of record. It is the student’s responsibility to initiate and complete a Withdrawal Request Form.
Last day to withdraw from the course with a “W” is: Monday, April 3, 2023
Student Learning Outcomes: At the successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
- Use appropriate symbolic notation and vocabulary to communicate, interpret, and explain mathematical concepts.
- Define, represent, and perform operations on real numbers, applying numeric reasoning to investigate and describe quantitative relationships and solve real world problems in a variety of contexts.
- Use algebraic reasoning to solve problems that require ratios, rates, percentages, and proportions in a variety of contexts using multiple representations.
- Apply algebraic reasoning to manipulate expressions and equations to solve real world problems.
- Use graphs, tables, and technology to analyze, interpret, and compare data sets.
- Construct and use mathematical models in verbal, algebraic, graphical, and tabular form to solve problems from a variety of contexts and to make predictions and decisions.
