MUAP 1276 001 1 hour private lesson (requires instructor approval)

Modality: this is a face-to-face class, but can move to synchronous as circumstances dictate
Class meeting location, days, and times: Lessons will be held on Thursdays in the Studio of the CPA, as scheduled. Departmental/Noon Time Recitals will be scheduled on Thursdays. Jury performance TBA

MUAP 1176 - APPLIED VOICE
Individual instruction in voice, instrument, composition, or conducting.
Lab fees apply
Upon completion, students will be able to:
- Identify vocal literature and demonstrate correct vocal technique.
- Demonstrate vocal production.
- Demonstrate vocal skills necessary for the development and growth of students’ vocal performance.
- Demonstrate proper breath control, diction, posture, vocal exercises, interpretation, and general musicianship.

MUAP 1276 – APPLIED VOICE
Identical to MUAP 1176, with additional performances required. 2 Credit Hours. 16 Lab hours.
Course prerequisites: A desire to improve vocal production! MUAP 1276 requires instructor approval.

- Notebook containing your music, weekly assignment page, pencil, note paper
- Water
- Optional but highly suggested: a recording device (can be your phone)

SUMMARY OF COURSE ASSIGNMENTS
List of graded assignments: Each lesson will be graded: A=90-100, B=80-89, C=70-79, D=60-69, F=59 or below. Grade is based on lesson attendance, preparation (prior practice) and the progress of the student, with much emphasis on attendance and evidence of individual practice (70% of the final grade). MUAP 1176 Students will perform on at least one Departmental/Noon Time Recital, MUAP 1276 Students will perform on at least two Departmental/Noon Time Recitals (10% of the final grade). All students are expected to attend Departmental/Noon Time Recitals. A Jury (final) performance at the end of the semester (20% of final grade – an average of the Jury Committee members grades).

Departmental/Noon Time Recital performance and attendance: 10%
Jury Performance 20% (averaged from the Jury Committee members grades)
Late work policy: Late work will be considered only in extreme circumstances.

COURSE POLICIES

Attendance Policy: Two absences will be allowed. Three or more absences may result in a lower final grade or student being dropped from the course.
Lessons missed because of student absence will not be made up except in extreme emergencies. Lessons missed because of instructor absence will be made up.
Three student recitals (“Departmental” or “Noon Time Recital”) will be scheduled each semester. MUAP 1176 students will perform on at least one recital. MUAP 1276 students will perform on at least 2 recitals. Attendance at all Departmental/Noon Time Recitals is expected.
Withdrawal Policy: A student may withdraw from a course on or after the official date of record. It is the student’s responsibility to initiate and complete and Withdrawal Request Form.
Last day to withdraw from the course with a “W” is indicated on the current NCTC academic calendar.
Student Learning Outcomes: Improved healthy vocal technique and musicianship
Core Objectives: Through private study and practice of varied repertoire, the student will develop a healthy vocal technique and improved musicianship.
