Description

A study of refining, mechanical, and physical properties of ferrous and non-ferrous materials including the theory of alloys, heat treatment, and testing. 48 lecture hours.

At the conclusion of the course a student will be able to: Define the physical and mechanical properties of ferrous and non-ferrous metals; describe the steel making process; name and describe methods of destructive and nondestructive testing; explain the effects of hot working, cold working, welding, machining, and heat treating on metal properties; perform tests to pinpoint failures; define metallurgical terms and processes; and recognize defects and their causes.
