Course description:  Collection, analysis, presentation and interpretation of data, and probability. Analysis includes descriptive statistics, correlation and regression, confidence intervals and hypothesis testing. Use of appropriate technology is recommended.

 

Course prerequisites:  Meet TSI college-readiness standard for Elementary Statistics; or equivalent

 

Required course materials:  MyLab Statistics (e-text included in MyLab Statistics)

STUDENT HOURS (OFFICE HOURS)

Each week instructors have time set aside to meet with students outside of class. (Traditionally these times have been called “office hours”.) This is a time when a student may ask questions regarding the class or discuss a particular problem/topic with an instructor one-on-one.  Student hours may be held in-person or online.  See below for instructions on where/when/how instructors will offer student hours in this class.

 

Since we meet face to face feel free to raise any questions before lecture, during break, or after class. To set up an appointment please email me at aaguinaga@nctc.edu or message me on canvas. I will also answer questions via canvas or email. I will not answer emails after 7:30 PM. During weeks we have an exam I will make myself available until 10:00 PM.

 

MATH TUTORING LAB

 

Students who need help with any math class can visit the NCTC Mathematics Lab to receive assistance.  There are math tutors available on every campus and online.  This service is free for all students enrolled in an NCTC math class.             Comprehensive department final exam

            Final Exam is online and will open Monday, May 8^th at 8:00 AM and close Friday, May 12^th at 10:00 PM.

           

Final grade scale:  90 – 100% = A;   80 – 89% = B; 70 – 79% = C;  60 – 69% = D;  Below 60% = F

 

 

In- Class Quizzes (10%)

Quizzes that are given in class to gauge students’ retention. These quizzes will be a surprise, think pop quiz!

 

Homework (10%)

Late homework is accepted with a 20% penalty to the final grade. Homework is online through My Stats Lab There is not a limit to the attempts on your homework assignments. The two lowest homework grades will be dropped.

 

 

Quizzes (20%)

Late quizzes are accepted with a 20% penalty to final grade. Quizzes are online through my Stats Lab. There will be three attempts to take quizzes and they will not be timed. The lowest quiz grade will be dropped.

 

Tests (40%)

Late tests are not accepted. Tests are online through My Stats Lab and will be timed. You will have 120 minutes to complete each test. The lowest test grade is replaced by your final exam grade if it will help your overall grade.

 

 

Final Exam (20%)

The final exam will be given in class Wednesday, December 8^th at 6:00 PM.

COURSE POLICIES

 

Academic Integrity Policy:

Consequences for academic dishonesty may include:

1. Zero on the assignment
2. Failing grade for the course

 

Attendance Policy:

Withdrawal Policy

A student may withdraw from a course on or after the official date of record. It is the student’s responsibility to initiate and complete a Withdrawal Request Form.

 

Last day to withdraw from a 16-week course with a “W” is: Monday, October 31, 2022

Last day to withdraw from a 2^nd 8-week course with a “W” is: Friday, November 18, 2022
