Course description: Collection, analysis, presentation and interpretation of data, and probability. Analysis includes descriptive statistics, correlation and regression, confidence intervals and hypothesis testing. Use of appropriate technology is recommended.
Course prerequisites: Meet TSI college-readiness standard for Elementary Statistics; or equivalent
Course materials: Fundamentals of Statistics: Informed Decisions Using Data 6th edition, Michael Sullivan III, 2022, Pearson (printed textbook is optional)
Required for Graded Assignments: MyLab Statistics with Pearson eText -- Access Card -- for Fundamentals of Statistics (18-Weeks)
Required Technology: Computer with web camera, headphones with microphone, dependable internet resource, TI-36X Pro or TI 83-84 calculator, and a free PDF Scanner app.
NOTE: Cell Phone calculators will not be allowed on exams.

STUDENT HOURS (OFFICE HOURS)
Each week instructors have time set aside to meet with students outside of class. (Traditionally these times have been called “office hours”.) This is a time when a student may ask questions regarding the class or discuss a particular problem/topic with an instructor one-on-one. Student hours may be held in-person or online. See below for instructions on where/when/how instructors will offer student hours in this class.
Students who wish to make an appointment to meet with the instructor will refer to the Canvas Module named ‘Scheduling an Appointment with Your Instructor’. This module contains a link to the Calendly scheduler. Students will select a date and time as well as designate a location. Location choices are: ‘in-person’, for those students who reside near the Bowie campus or ‘WebEx’, for those students that do not reside near the Bowie campus or prefer this meeting modality. If WebEx is the selected location, the student will receive a confirmation email containing the required WebEx meeting link for the designated date and time (keep for your reference).

Final grade scale: 90 – 100% = A; 80 – 89% = B; 70 – 79% = C; 60 – 69% = D; Below 60% = F
The departmental comprehensive final exam is required of every student or a zero is recorded. The final exam may also be used to replace the lowest unit exam grade to enhance your end of course grade.
Grading policy:
All homework, quizzes and exams will be completed online using My Stat Lab (MSL) following the posted due dates. All exams will require a submission of handwritten work supporting the mathematical processes used during the exam. If a student does not submit handwritten work a zero will be recorded for the exam, regardless of results in the online testing portion.
Students have 48-hours, following the return of testing feedback, to raise questions or concerns about grading. After the 48-hours have expired, students can no longer contest an exam grade. The grade book in Canvas is the official record keeper of this course.
Late work policy:
Do not ask to extend due dates. Late work is not accepted.
There will be no make-up assignments (including exams).

COURSE POLICIES
Academic Integrity Policy:
Scholastic dishonesty shall include, but is not limited to cheating, plagiarism, academic falsification, intellectual property dishonesty, academic dishonesty facilitation, and collusion. The use of online math solvers with submitted work is considered academic dishonesty. Faculty members may document and bring charges against a student who is engaged in or is suspected to be engaged in academic dishonesty. Consequences for academic dishonesty may include:
- Zero on the assignment
- Failing grade for the course
Attendance Policy:
Regular and punctual attendance is expected of all students in all classes for which they have registered. All absences are considered to be unauthorized unless the student is absent due to illness or emergencies. It is the student’s responsibility to provide documentation as to the emergency for approval by the faculty member. Approved college-sponsored activities are also excused absences. The instructor is responsible for judging the validity of any reason given for an absence. Valid reasons for absence, however, do not relieve the student of the responsibility for making up required work. Students will not be allowed to make up an examination missed due to absence unless the absence is documented and excused by the instructor. Student will be dropped from a class by the Registrar upon recommendation of the instructor who feels the student has been justifiably absent or tardy a sufficient number of times to preclude meeting the course’s objectives. Persistent, unjustified absences from classes or laboratories will be considered sufficient cause for College officials to drop a student from the rolls of the College. From Board Policy FC (LOCAL)
Withdrawal Policy
A student may withdraw from a course on or after the official date of record. It is the student’s responsibility to initiate and complete a Withdrawal Request Form.
