MYSTATLAB (MSL) Access Code:

There is no need to waiting for Finical Aid in order to purchase the access code. Students can purchase supplies from the NCTC bookstore during the first week of classes without a disbursement.

Otherwise, students can use the Temporary Access Code on day 1The access code is necessary to register and unlock all the features including videos/homework/quizzes/tests for our course. Due dates will NOT be modified because students did not purchase the required access code.

Lecture/Instruction:

  • Students are expected to watch all section video lectures in MSL. These will be listed with the other assignments, but the videos can also be accessed from the eBook. Take notes while watching the videos. It will be difficult to view the videos if you do not have a high-speed internet connection. The videos contain instruction on each objective that is to be covered in the course. If a student misses class, then watching the video will help with topics covered in class. Not viewing the videos will make the homework difficult to complete.

  • Students are also expected to read the e-book for all sections that are assigned. This will reinforce the topics viewed in the video lectures. Work all example problems in the e-book.

  • Extra notes/handouts/power point notes will be stored in CANVAS for students to use as extra references.

HOMEWORK, QUIZZES, TEST REVIEW, AND TEST POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Homework:  All homework assignments are to be completed on the computer using MyStatLab. Homework is part of the overall grade and it is an important component in student success for this course. Homework reinforces the topics from each section. Homework assignments will have unlimited number of attempts and only the highest score will be recorded.

Quizzes: Online quizzes are assigned using MyStatLab approximately one each week. Students will have three attempts for each online quiz. Some quizzes may have time limits. The highest score will be recorded. Utilize the quizzes properly – try it without using notes.

MSL Homework and Quizzes can be worked past the due date for a late penalty of 30%. This eliminates the need for students to ask about re-opening any missed assignments.

Projects: Instructions for completing each project will be given in CANVAS.

Tests: Four tests will be given according to the tentative calendar (See file located in CANVAS).  These are paper and pencil exams in class. There is only one attempt on a test. Calculators may be used on the test. There are NO Makeup exams. The lowest test grade will be replaced with the grade from the final exam.

Final Exam: The final exam is comprehensive and required of all students. The final exam will be given in class with a time limit and only one attempt. The final exam can replace one low test grade.

There will be no make-up assignments (including tests or final exam).

Gradebook:

The grade book in MSL keeps a running average of your grade. This will be the most up-to-date gradebook throughout the semester. The grade book in CANVAS will be manually synchronized with the MML grade book. This is done by the instructor periodically throughout the semester.  The instructor will notify you when grades have been copied into CANVAS.

STUDENT EMAIL

All students at NCTC are assigned a student email address, also known as Lion Pride email. Lion Pride email can be accessed on the NCTC home page by clicking on MyNCTC, then the link “Lion Pride Email” to the left. After clicking the Lion Pride Email link, the Microsoft Office 365 window will open.
1. Enter your NCTC student e-mail address. (for example, Smithj123456@student.nctc.edu)

2. Enter your password (your NCTC Student ID Number, either 7 or 9 numbers).

3. From the list of Microsoft icons, choose MAIL.

4. You will be asked to set your language and local time zone (Central Time). Your account is now activated.

**It is the student’s responsibility to activate and regularly monitor the assigned NCTC (Lion Pride) e-mail account. Important announcements and notifications from the Admissions office, Financial Aid, or other college staff will be sent via the Lion Pride student email system.

For communicating with classmates and instructors, students also have an option to communicate through Canvas. Canvas messaging is NOT the same as Lion Pride e-mail. Failure to read and/or receive NCTC e-mails (either in Lion Pride or in Canvas) is no excuse for not complying with any school policy. Be sure to regularly check BOTH the Lion Pride email as well as the Canvas inbox for important messages and information.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Regular and punctual attendance is expected of all students in all classes for which they have registered.  All absences are considered to be unauthorized unless the student is absent due to illness or emergencies.  It is the student’s responsibility to provide documentation as to the emergency for approval by the faculty member.  Approved college-sponsored activities are also excused absences.  The instructor is responsible for judging the validity of any reason given for an absence.  Valid reasons for absence, however, do not relieve the student of the responsibility for making up required work.  Students will not be allowed to make up an examination missed due to absence unless the absence is documented and excused by the instructor.  Student will be dropped from a class by the Registrar upon recommendation of the instructor who feels the student has been justifiably absent or tardy a sufficient number of times to preclude meeting the course’s objectives.    Persistent, unjustified absences from classes or laboratories will be considered sufficient cause for College officials to drop a student from the rolls of the College. From Board Policy FC (LOCAL)
