Course Description (NCTC Catalog): Collection, analysis, presentation and interpretation of data, and probability. Analysis includes descriptive statistics, correlation and regression, confidence intervals and hypothesis testing. Use of appropriate technology is recommended.            

Course Prerequisite(s): Meet TSI college-readiness standard for Elementary Statistics; or equivalent

TI-30X IIS or TI 83-84 calculator is required

MyMathlab

MyMathlab is an online homework and course management system.  The link is available on our Canvas course page.  You can purchase an access code in bookstore or buy online using paypal or credit card. You will need to register for this right away.

 

Homework

Homework is submitted using mymathlab.  Each homework question may be attempted 5 times.  Each homework assignment is due at 11:59 pm on the due date.  Students can work on the homework after the due date for 20% off.

 

Tests

There are four regular exams and a cumulative final.  All tests will be taken during the class period and will be paper and pencil tests.  The test questions will be short answer.  One make-up exam will be allowed if I am notified ahead of time.  The lowest score of the 5 exams will be dropped.

 

Excel

Excel assignments will be posted in Canvas, and you will upload your completed project in Canvas.  There are Excel guidelines posted in Canvas and an Excel manual in MyMathlab.  Most of your assignments will include a referral to this manual.  Late excel projects will be counted off 10% per day.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Regular and punctual attendance is expected of all students in all classes for which they have registered.  All absences are considered to be unauthorized unless the student is absent due to illness or emergencies.  It is the student’s responsibility to provide documentation as to the emergency for approval by the faculty member.  Approved college-sponsored activities are also excused absences.  The instructor is responsible for judging the validity of any reason given for an absence.  Valid reasons for absence, however, do not relieve the student of the responsibility for making up required work.  Students will not be allowed to make up an examination missed due to absence unless the absence is documented and excused by the instructor.  Student will be dropped from a class by the Registrar upon recommendation of the instructor who feels the student has been justifiably absent or tardy a sufficient number of times to preclude meeting the course’s objectives.    Persistent, unjustified absences from classes or laboratories will be considered sufficient cause for College officials to drop a student from the rolls of the College. Last day to withdraw from a 1st 8-week course with a “W” is Thursday, September 27, 2018.
