Catalog Description

Prerequisite:  Math 1314 College Algebra; or appropriate NCTC Math placement test score.

48 lecture hours……………………………………………3 credit hours

In-depth study and applications of trigonometry including definitions, identities, inverse functions, solutions of equations, graphing, and solving triangles. Additional topics such as vectors, polar coordinates and parametric equations may be included.

 

Textbook & Materials Required/ Recommended

Trigonometry, Lial, Hornsby, Schneider, Daniels 10th Ed.,  Pearson Addison Wesley Educational, Inc., 2013       

Scientific calculator (TI-30X IIS or TI-83/84 series is recommended)

 

Learning Outcomes

At the successful completion of this course the student will be able to:

·  Compute the values of trigonometric functions for key angles in all quadrants of the unit circle measured in both degrees and radians.

·  Graph trigonometric functions and their transformations.

·  Prove trigonometric identities.

·  Solve trigonometric equations.

·  Solve right and oblique triangles.

·  Use the concepts of trigonometry to solve applications.

Attendance Policy

Regular and punctual attendance is expected of all students in all classes for which they have registered.  Students are responsible for keeping up with what occurs in class when they are absent.  Dropping a course is the student's responsibility, but you MAY be dropped for excessive absence.  See Attendance Regulations in the North Central Texas College Catalog.

Grade Calculation:

4 Homework assignments    20%(5% each assignment)

4 Exams                                60%(drop the lowest test grade)

1 Final exam                         20%      

Total                                    100% 

 

Grade Scale 

A=90 – 100; B=80 – 89; C=70 – 79; D=60-69; F=0 – 59

 

The grading policy may be amended at the instructor’s discrection.
