Course Description (NCTC Catalog):
A survey of the social, political, economic, cultural, and intellectual history of the United States from the Civil War/Reconstruction era to the present. United States History II examines industrialization, immigration, world wars, the Great Depression, Cold War and post-Cold War eras. Themes that may be addressed in United States History II include: American culture, religion, civil and human rights, technological change, economic change, immigration and migration, urbanization and suburbanization, the expansion of the federal government, and the study of U.S. foreign Policy.

Fall, 2018 Calendar
The Calendar below includes all of the dates for this semester. It also includes all of the dates that assignments are due. You should be familiar with this calendar. All assignments for this class will be done in the classroom except for the Writing Assignment. The instructions for the Writing Assignment are online. We can discuss the Writing Assignment in class as much as you would like. That assignment is due Sunday evening, December 2, at 11:59 p.m. There is a drop box available for you to submit that assignment.
Make-up policy:
1) There will be no make-up if you miss a Class Activity.
2) If you do not submit the Writing Assignment on time, you will not be allowed to submit it late.
3) If you miss a test, you will be allowed to take a make-up test at the end of the semester. The make-up test will be comprehensive. You may only make up one test. If you miss more than one test, you will be given a grade of 0 for each test missed after the first one. If you take a make-up test, you will only be able to earn the number of points the test you missed was worth.

ATTENDANCE POLICY
Regular and punctual attendance is expected of all students in all classes for which they have registered. All absences are considered to be unauthorized unless the student is absent due to illness or emergencies as determined by the instructor. It is the student's responsibility to provide documentation as to the emergency for approval and judgement by the faculty member. Approved college sponsored activities are the only absences for which a student should not be held liable and only when provided by a college official ahead of the absence. Valid reasons for absence, however, do not relieve the student of the responsibility for making up required work. Students will not be allowed to make up an examination missed due to absence unless they have reasons acceptable to the instructor. A student who is compelled to be absent when a test is given should petition the instructor, in advance if possible, for permission to postpone the exam. Student will be dropped from a class by the Registrar upon recommendation of the instructor who feels the student has been justifiably absent or tardy a sufficient number of times to preclude meeting the course’s objectives. Persistent, unjustified absences from classes or laboratories will be considered sufficient cause for College officials to drop a student from the rolls of the College. From Board Policy FC (LOCAL)
Last day to withdraw from a course with a “W” is Thursday, November 8.
DISABILITY SERVICES (Office for Students with Disabilities)
The Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) provides support services for students with disabilities, students enrolled in technical areas of study, and students who are classified as special populations (i.e. single parents).
Support services for students with disabilities might include appropriate and reasonable accommodations, or they may be in the form of personal counseling, academic counseling, career counseling, etc. Furthermore, OSD Counselors work with students to encourage self-advocacy and promote empowerment. The Counselors also provides resource information, disability-related information, and adaptive technology for students who qualify.

Faculty members may document and bring charges against a student who is engaged in or is suspected to be engaged in academic dishonesty. Any instance of plagiarism on the Writing Assignment will result in a grade of 0 on that assignment. Any instance of students working together on the Writing Assignment will result in a grade of 0 on that assignment. If you receive a 0 for either of these reasons, you will not be allowed to make up the assignment.
