Course Description (NCTC Catalog):   A study of the: research and theory in the psychology of learning, cognition, and motivation; factors that impact learning, and application of learning strategies. Theoretical models of strategic learning, cognition, and motivation serve as the conceptual basis for the introduction of college-level student academic strategies. Students use assessment instruments (e.g., learning inventories) to help them identify their own strengths and weaknesses as strategic learners. Students are ultimately expected to integrate and apply the learning skills discussed across their own academic programs and become effective and efficient learners. Students developing these skills should be able to continually draw from the theoretical models they have learned.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Regular and punctual attendance is expected of all students in all classes for which they have registered.   It is not the teacher’s responsibility to provide the student with notes for any missed classes unless the student has an extenuating reason for the absence which has been approved by the instructor BEFORE the absence occurs.  Valid reasons for absence, however, do not relieve the student of the responsibility for turning in required work on time.  Students will not be allowed to make up an examination missed due to absence unless they have reasons acceptable to the instructor.  A student who is compelled to be absent when a test is given should petition the instructor, in advance if possible, for permission to postpone the exam.  Student will be dropped from a class by the Registrar upon recommendation of the instructor who feels the student has been justifiably absent or tardy a sufficient number of times to preclude meeting the course’s objectives.    Persistent, unjustified absences from classes or laboratories will be considered sufficient cause for College officials to drop a student from the rolls of the College. An attendance sheet will be passed around at the beginning of each class period and it is your responsibility to initial this sheet.  Regular and punctual attendance is expected of all students in all classes for which they have registered.

Last day to withdraw from a course with a “W” is NOVEMBER 8.  If you wish to withdraw from this or any course, you must see the Admissions Office on any campus to complete the necessary paperwork to withdraw from your course.

 

IMPORTANT POLICIES

  • Time Management Reflections (ETF) will be available in CANVAS on Tuesdays only opening at 12:00 am and will close at 11:59 pm.  Late work will NOT be accepted.
  • LATE ASSIGNMENTS are not accepted after the posted due date.  It is the student’s responsibility to be aware what the due date is.
  • Make-up exams are allowed in extreme cases ONLY and require special permission by the instructor to be taken at another time.  The student should discuss this with the instructor BEFORE the exam is given if at all possible.  (For example - An excuse of being “sick” would require a doctor’s note.)
  • Cell phones are to remain silenced and put away during class hours (in pocket, purse, or backpack).
  • Disruptive behavior which detracts from the class in any way may result in your dismissal from the class for that day or other appropriate consequence (See Student Handbook referenced below).

 

 

DISABILITY SERVICES (Office for Students with Disabilities)

The Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) provides support services for students with disabilities, students enrolled in technical areas of study, and students who are classified as special populations (i.e. single parents).

Support services for students with disabilities might include appropriate and reasonable accommodations, or they may be in the form of personal counseling, academic counseling, career counseling, etc.  Furthermore, OSD Counselors work with students to encourage self-advocacy and promote empowerment. The Counselors also provides resource information, disability-related information, and adaptive technology for students who qualify.
