COURSE POLICIES

Academic Integrity Policy:

This course follows NCTC’s policy on academic integrity. See student handbook for complete information.

Artificial Intelligence Policy:

Specific Use

Use of ChatGPT (or other similar tools that generate text) is allowed in this class for specific assignments only. When use of the tool is allowed, it will be explicitly noted in the assignment directions. If you utilize artificial intelligence for any part of the assignment (from idea generation to text creation to text editing), you must properly cite the source.

Acceptable uses include brainstorming topics, identifying relevant concepts, or generating study questions. Students are fully responsible for verifying the accuracy, validity, and existence of all information obtained through AI tools. Any content submitted that contains inaccurate information, fabricated sources, or references that do not exist will be treated as plagiarism, regardless of whether the error originated from an AI tool. AI tools may not be used to write or generate papers, essays, discussion board responses, or other graded written assignments. All submitted work must reflect the student’s own original thinking, analysis, and writing. Use of AI in a manner that replaces original student work, misrepresents authorship, or violates academic integrity standards may result in disciplinary action consistent with institutional policies. When in doubt about whether a particular use of AI is appropriate, students should consult the instructor before submitting the assignment.

Attendance Policy:

Attendance is measured through participation in assigned discussion forums. Further, attendance will be granted according to active participation, which is expected and is essential to the learning experience in this course. Active Participation involves more than simply logging in to be counted present or posting a minimal response. While participation is not assigned a separate numerical grade, students are evaluated on the quality of their contributions and insights throughout the course.

High-quality contributions typically demonstrate one or more of the following characteristics:

  • Offer a unique and relevant perspective
  • Advance the discussion or analysis in a meaningful way
  • Build thoughtfully on the ideas and comments of others
  • Reflect careful thinking and application of course concepts rather than unsupported personal opinion

Students are encouraged to engage thoughtfully and consistently, as meaningful participation enhances both individual learning and the collective learning environment.

Please note – the use of AI to initiate or respond to discussion will is not acceptable. All discussion must be original.

If a student does not participate they may be dropped from the course or withdrawn. Participation/attendance is logged based on assignment completion.

Withdrawal Policy:

A student may withdraw from a course on or after the official date of record. It is the student’s responsibility to initiate and complete a Withdrawal Request Form.

Last day to withdraw from the course with a “W” is: March 30, 2026

Student Learning Outcomes:

After completing this course, the student will be able to

  • LO1 - Explain various theories, processes and functions of management.
  • LO2 - Apply theories to a business environment.
  • LO3 - Identify leadership roles in organizations.
  • LO4 - Describe the elements of the communication process.

Email Communication:

All course-related emails must be sent through Canvas. Please do not use personal email accounts to contact the instructor, as messages sent outside of Canvas will not receive a response. Canvas messaging should be used for general course or course content questions only. Questions regarding grades will not be addressed via email. If you would like to discuss your grade, please schedule a meeting during office hours or request an appointment.

Extra Credit:

Extra credit opportunities are offered solely at the instructor’s discretion. Please do not email requests for extra credit. If an extra credit assignment is made available, the instructor will notify the class via Canvas. Students are strongly encouraged to focus on completing all required assignments successfully rather than relying on extra credit. Consistent reading of the textbook and completion of all assigned work greatly increase the likelihood of success in this course.

Lectures and Readings:

Students are responsible for reading all assigned textbook chapters, watching lecture videos, and taking their own notes. Do not rely exclusively on posted lecture notes or PowerPoint presentations. Any PowerPoint slides are provided as a guide and may be located within each course module, but they do not replace the textbook. You will need your textbook to be successful in this course. Exams and quizzes are based on both the PowerPoint materials and the full textbook chapters. Students are also expected to utilize the learning tools available in CONNECT.

Core Objectives:

This course includes quizzes and assignments that directly align with the required program and course learning outcomes. These assignments will be clearly identified and must be completed in a single attempt. Successful completion of these assessments is required to demonstrate mastery of course objectives.

COLLEGE POLICIES

ADA STATEMENT

NCTC will adhere to all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations and guidelines with respect to providing reasonable accommodations to afford equal educational opportunity. It is the student’s responsibility to contact the Office for Students with Disabilities to arrange appropriate accommodations.  See the OSD Syllabus Addendum.

AI STATEMENT

Absent a clear statement from a course instructor, use of or consultation with generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) or other similar technologies shall be treated analogously to assistance from another person, agency, or entity. In particular, using generative AI tools to substantially complete an assignment or exam is not permitted. Students should acknowledge the use of generative AI (other than incidental use) and default to disclosing such assistance when in doubt.

When students use generative AI to replace the rigorous demands of personal engagement with their coursework, it runs counter to the educational mission of the college and undermines the heart of education itself. Artificial Intelligence, large language models, and other such technologies hold promise for deploying knowledge in service to others and accelerating the discovery of new knowledge. However, such technology poses new challenges to pedagogy and to integrity. Within the context of the teaching mission of the college and consistent with the Student Code of Conduct, the authority to define the appropriate use, study, and deployment of these technologies rests with the faculty.

Individual course instructors, in coordination with their divisions, set policies regulating the use of generative AI tools in their courses, including allowing or disallowing some or all uses of such tools. Course instructors will set such policies in their course syllabi and clearly communicate such policies to students. Students who are unsure of policies regarding generative AI tools are encouraged to ask their instructors for clarification.

STUDENT HANDBOOK

Students are expected to follow all rules and regulations found in the Student Handbook.
