This is an online class. Your attendance is documented by the completion of assignments. It is important that you log in regularly and stay on task for this course. I suggest a minimum of three times a week.
Online accounting courses are challenging. They are designed for self-motivated individuals who can work independently. Expect to spend at least 6 hours a week working in this course.
This course begins August 27, 2018 and ends December 14, 2018
The last day to drop with a W is November 8, 2018.
If you feel you cannot complete the course, it is your responsibility to drop. If you do not complete the work successfully and fail to drop this course, you will receive an F.
Regular and punctual attendance is expected of all students in all classes for which they have registered. All absences are unauthorized unless the student is absent due to illness or emergencies as determined by the instructor. It is the student responsibility to provide documentation as to the emergency for approval and judgement by the faculty member. Approved college sponsored activities are the only absences for which a student should not be held liable and only when provided by a college official ahead of the absence. Valid reasons for absence, however, do not relieve the student of the responsibility for making up required work. Students will not be allowed to make up an examination missed due to absence unless they have reasons acceptable to the instructor. A student who is compelled to be absent when a test is given should petition the instructor, in advance if possible, for permission to postpone the exam. Student will be dropped from a class by the Registrar upon recommendation of the instructor who feels the student has been justifiably absent or tardy a sufficient number of times to preclude meeting the course’s objectives. Persistent, unjustified absences from classes or laboratories will be considered sufficient cause for College officials to drop a student from the rolls of the College. From Board Policy FC (LOCAL)

Homework/Exercises
- Selected exercises at the end of each chapter are assigned as homework in My Accounting Lab. Links are in Canvas Modules to access these assignments.
- The lowest Exercise assignment grade will be dropped.
- Each My Accounting Lab Homework assignment may be attempted 5 times and is not timed. Be sure to save your attempts so that you get credit for the questions already completed. The last saved attempt will be the one that is counted as your grade.
- Any My Accounting Lab Homework assignments may be turned in late. There is a 50% penalty for late homework assignments. Password to complete late homework: late
- The deadline for all late homework with penalty is Wednesday, December 5th, 2018.
- Additional questions are available in My Accounting Lab study guide for students to learn the material prior to attempting the graded homework. Study guide problems have unlimited attempts to help students score better on the graded assignments.
Quizzes
- Quizzes may be attempted 1 time and have a 45-minute time limit.
- The lowest Quiz assignment grade will be dropped.
- Quizzes cannot be turned in late.

Discussion Forums
- Discussion forums are assigned in Canvas.
- The initial post should be a well thought out response to the posted question. I will grade this on content, grammar, spelling and timely posting. There is no word requirement but you must answer the posted question.
- The reply to another post must not be just an agree/disagree with the person. It can be an agree/disagree with an explanation on why you agree/disagree. This is the only way that you will get full credit.
- The original post accounts for about 70% of the discussion forum grade. The reply to a post is about 30% of your discussion forum grade.
- Discussion forums cannot be turned in late.
Exams
- The course consists of 3 Unit Exams and 1 Final Exam.
- Exam 1 covers modules 1 and 2, exam 2 covers modules 3 and 4, and exam 3 covers modules 5 and 6. The final exam covers modules 7 and 8.
- You will have one attempt on each exam and a two-hour time limit.
- There will be no make-up exams given.

- All course work is available via the Internet through NCTC’s Canvas Learning Management System.
- Information for this course will be communicated via Canvas.
- Your instructor will not respond to e-mail sent from your personal or work e-mail addresses. Please use Canvas mail or NCTC Lion Mail to communicate with your instructor.
- Emails will be answered within 24 hours Monday through noon on Friday unless it is a holiday. After noon on Friday through Sunday, email may be answered on Monday.
- Assignment deadlines are available on Canvas Syllabus, Canvas Calendar, and on the assignment in Modules.
- Students are responsible for keeping track of their own grades. Grades for each assignment and exam will be posted in Canvas. If you believe the grade posted is in error, please contact your instructor.
- Accounting is a subject that builds. Students who do not understand Chapters 1, 2, and 3 will have difficulty when the class moves to the rest of the chapters. Students who do not understand a chapter should discuss the situation with the instructor immediately after the chapter is covered.

The Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) provides support services for students with disabilities, students enrolled in technical areas of study, and students who are classified as special populations (i.e. single parents).
