Course description: This course will look at the foundations of accounting and is for a mixture of majors in pursuit of understanding of how accounting affects daily business.

Course prerequisites: None

Required course materials: Introductory Financial Accounting for business, McGraw Hill Connect access and e-text required. Students have already paid for course materials during registration.

Final grade scale:  90-100 is an A, 80-89 is a B, 70 to 79 is a C, 60-69 is a D and below 60 is a F

Late work policy: All homework should be turned in by the due date.

COURSE POLICIES

 

Academic Integrity Policy:

  1. Scholastic dishonesty shall include, but is not limited to, cheating, plagiarism, falsification, intellectual property dishonesty, academic dishonesty facilitation and

collusion. 

Consequences for academic dishonesty may include:

  1. The student will receive a failing grade of "O" on the assignment. If the assignment is within a group in which the lowest assignment is dropped, the assignment will not be able to count as a dropped score. It will count as part of the grade.
  2. A "Scholastic Dishonesty Report Form" will be submitted regarding the incident
  3. Students may be dropped from the course with a failing grade (letter grade of “F”)

 

 

Attendance Policy: This is an on-line class

Withdrawal Policy

A student may withdraw from a course on or after the official date of record. It is the student’s responsibility to initiate and complete a Withdrawal Request Form.

Last day to withdraw from the course with a “W” is: April 1st

Student Learning Outcomes:

The student will:

1.Use basic accounting terminology and the assumptions, principles, and constraints of the   accounting environment.

2.Identify the difference between accrual and cash basis accounting.

3.Analyze and record business events in accordance with U.S. generally accepted accounting      principles (GAAP).

4.Prepare adjusting entries and close the general ledger.

5.Prepare financial statements in an appropriate U.S. GAAP format, including the following:       income statement, balance sheet, statement of cash flows, and statement of shareholders’      equity.

6.Analyze and interpret financial statements using financial analysis techniques.

7.Describe the conceptual differences between International Financial Reporting Standards and U.S. generally accepted accounting principles.
