General Description of Subject Matter
Introduction to CNC Machining
Describe the development of CNC technology. List advantages and disadvantages of using CNC technology. Describe the features of CNC milling machines. Compare the characteristics of various types of CNC turning machines. Indentify safety guidelines of CNC machining processes. Summarize the use of the Cartesian and polar coordinate systems in CNC technology. Contrast the two types of motors that are commonly used to drive CNC machines.
Programming Basics
Explain the process of planning and developing a CNC program. Describe three methods of generating CNC code. Summarize the use of CAD and CAM software in CNC programming. Classify the types of codes used in the ANSI/EIA 274D code format. Identify commonly used CNC modal commands.

ATTENDANCE POLICY
Regular and punctual attendance is expected of all students in all classes for which they have registered. Students absent (excused or unexcused) for 4 classes or more may receive an “F” for the course or may be dropped from the course. A student who is late for a class or leaves early from the class twice will be counted for one absence. Class participation assignments and exams will be used to determine regular attendance for online students. A student that is compelled to be absent when a test is given, will petition the instructor, in advance, for permission to take the exam early. A student will be allowed to drop one exam from the required exams given during the course. Required work not completed by due dates will not be allow to be turned in without instructor approval.
