Course Description (NCTC Catalog): Limits and continuity; the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus; definition of the derivative of a function and techniques of differentiation; applications of the derivative to maximizing or minimizing a function; the chain rule, mean value theorem, and rate of change problems; curve sketching; definite and indefinite integration of algebraic, trigonometric, and transcendental functions, with an application to calculation of areas.

Develop solutions for tangent and area problems using the concepts of limits, derivatives, and integrals.

Draw graphs of algebraic and transcendental functions considering limits, continuity, and differentiability at a point.

Determine whether a function is continuous and/or differentiable at a point using limits.

Use differentiation rules to differentiate algebraic and transcendental functions.

There are no makeup exams. However the final exam score may replace the lowest unit test grade.

ATTENDANCE POLICY
Regular and punctual attendance is expected of all students in all classes for which they have registered. All absences are considered to be unauthorized unless the student is absent due to illness or emergencies. It is the student’s responsibility to provide documentation as to the emergency for approval by the faculty member. Approved college-sponsored activities are considered excused absences. The instructor will judge the validity of any reason and/or documentation given for an absence. Excused absences, do not relieve the student of the responsibility for completing required work. Students will not be allowed to make up an examination missed due to absence, however students may request to take an exam early. Regardless of the reason for the absence, the student is expected to learn the missed material by reading the textbook, viewing videos and practicing, ideally prior to the next class meeting. Additionally students will be expected to complete work by assigned due dates, in most cases, regardless of absence. Student will be dropped from a class by the Registrar upon recommendation of the instructor who feels the student has been justifiably absent or tardy a sufficient number of times to preclude meeting the course’s objectives. Persistent, unjustified absences from classes or laboratories will be considered sufficient cause for College officials to drop a student from the rolls of the College. From Board Policy FC (LOCAL).
Full participation in class discussion and class work is expected and an important component of active learning.
