Course description: Collection, analysis, presentation and interpretation of data, and probability. Analysis includes descriptive statistics, correlation and regression, confidence intervals and hypothesis testing. Use of appropriate technology is recommended.
Course prerequisites: Meet TSI college-readiness standard for Elementary Statistics; or equivalent
Required course materials:
Registration in the course gives you the access code to the online learning platform and e-book needed for MATH 1342 (MyLab Statistics – e-text included in MyLab Statistics). You do not need to purchase a separate access code. Instructions for obtaining your access code will be posted in Canvas.
A calculator is required. The TI-30X IIS is recommended. The TI 83-84 calculator is allowed.
NOTE: Phone calculators will not be allowed on exams.

Each week instructors have time set aside to meet with students outside of class. (Traditionally these times have been called “office hours”.) This is a time when a student may ask questions regarding the class, or discuss a particular problem/topic with an instructor one-on-one. Student hours may be held in person or online. Office hours can be held in my office or virtually through Cisco WebEx. If you come to my office, you do not need to make an appointment ahead of time (although doing so is fine). To schedule a virtual appointment, click on the Cisco WebEx link in the Canvas course, and choose a day and time. The email with the meeting link will go to your NCTC student email account (Not Canvas).
MATH TUTORING LAB
Students who need help with any math class can visit the NCTC Mathematics Lab to receive assistance. There are math tutors available on every campus and online. The group and online quizzes together comprise 30% of your overall grade. The 4 exams will be 50%, and the final exam will be 20%.
Final grade scale: 90 – 100% = A; 80 – 89% = B; 70 – 79% = C; 60 – 69% = D; Below 60% = F
Group quizzes are done in class on most Thursdays. You must be in class to take a group quiz.
Online quizzes are done outside of class time. They are due on Saturdays by 11:59pm. You will have 5 attempts on each quiz. The highest grade of those attempts is the one recorded. Online quizzes are done through MyLab Statistics.
Two quiz grades (online and/or group) will be dropped at the end of the semester. For this reason, late assignments may not be accepted. Make sure you allow yourself plenty of time to get the online quizzes done. If you absolutely cannot be in class for a group quiz, contact the instructor.
There will also be practice homework assignments and MyLab video assignments each week, but these will not count toward your overall grade. These will be open past their due dates. You can work on them at any time.
Exams are taken in class on the dates given below. If you have to miss an exam, you must contact the instructor on or before the exam date in order to have a chance at a make-up exam. Once an exam is handed back to the class it may not be made up. Contact the instructor for other options.

Academic Integrity Policy:

The use of online math solvers with submitted work is considered academic dishonesty. Faculty members may document and bring charges against a student who is engaged in or is suspected to be engaged in academic dishonesty. Consequences for academic dishonesty may include:
- Zero on the assignment
- Failing grade for the course
Attendance Policy:

I will be taking attendance, but it will not count toward your grade. You are responsible for the material covered on any day you are absent. Have a plan for potential absences---someone whom you can get notes from, MyLab material to go over, find a time to go to the instructor's office hours, etc.
Withdrawal Policy
A student may withdraw from a course on or after the official date of record. It is the student’s responsibility to initiate and complete a Withdrawal Request Form.

If students would like to purchase a physical copy of the textbook, they can order it through the bookstore.
Students who drop before the add/drop date will have their book fees credited back to their student account, and students who remain in the course will be charged a materials fee by the school to have continued access of the online platforms.
