Course description: Collection, analysis, presentation and interpretation of data, and probability. Analysis includes descriptive statistics, correlation and regression, confidence intervals and hypothesis testing. Use of appropriate technology is recommended.
Course prerequisites: Meet TSI college-readiness standard for Elementary Statistics; or equivalent

Registration in the course gives you the access code to the online learning platform and e-book needed for MATH 1342 (MyLab Statistics – e-text included in MyLab Statistics). You do not need to purchase a separate access code. Instructions can be found in a separate document on the Course Homepage. (see * Follett ACCESS for more information)
TI 83-84 calculator is required

STUDENT HOURS (OFFICE HOURS)
Each week instructors have time set aside to meet with students outside of class. (Traditionally these times have been called “office hours”.) This is a time when a student may ask questions regarding the class, or discuss a particular problem/topic with an instructor one-on-one. Student hours may be held in-person or online. See below for instructions on where/when/how instructors will offer student hours in this class.
Student hours: Mondays and Wednesdays 1:00 – 2:00 pm, or by appointment in room 208. This time is open to any student that would like to visit and is usually first come/first serve. However, students may contact the instructor by email or Canvas Inbox to request an appointment time outside of these hours when needed. I encourage students requesting an appointment outside of student hours to list their availability to make the scheduling process go more smoothly.
MATH TUTORING LAB
Students who need help with any math class can visit the NCTC Mathematics Lab to receive assistance. There are math tutors available on every campus and online. This service is free for all students enrolled in an NCTC math class. Sign up for an appointment or see the most current tutoring hours for all campuses at https://www.nctc.edu/math-lab.

Attending in-person and registering for MyLab Statistics are essential actions for course success. Tests are direct assessments of student learning and progress, and MyLab contains coursework, e-text, and the supplementary practice and resources helpful to complete the course.
Students that have not registered for MyLab by Tuesday, September 5, 11:59 pm may be withdrawn from the course. The instructor may also request that student be withdrawn from the course for non-attendance if two weeks of assignments or tests are missed.
Participation: Participation assignments include discussions, class surveys, and activities that allow engagement with classmates and course material. Discussion posts may have a due date for the initial post and a later discussion close date to allow for dialogue on the topics.
MyLab Practice Homework is not required, but highly recommended.
Graded Assignments: If due online must be submitted by 11:59 pm on the due date. If due in person/class, it must be submitted in-person by 5:00 pm on the due date.
Quizzes: Due online via MyLab by 11:59 pm on Saturdays. Students may make up to 3 attempts on each quiz. I will record the highest score. The lowest quiz score will be dropped at the end of the semester.
Exams: There will be 4 unit tests and 1 Final Exam. The final exam is comprehensive and required. Each of these exams must be taken in person on campus on the test date. If there is a conflict with the testing date, a student may request an alternate testing time before the exam. These requests will be approved on a case-by-case basis.
Students are allowed one 3 inch by 5 inch notecard at each unit test, and one 8.5 inch by 11 inch sheet for notes on the final exam. No attachments are allowed on the notecard (nothing glued, stapled, etc)
There are no makeup exams; however, the final exam may replace the lowest unit test grade or one missed exam.
Late work policy:
A 20% penalty will be deducted for late graded assignments and discussion posts (submitted late during the posting period). Once the discussion board has closed, no additional posting will be allowed.
A 10% penalty will be deducted for late quizzes.
No late exams will be accepted. Missed exams will earn a zero score.

Academic Integrity Policy:
Scholastic dishonesty shall include, but is not limited to cheating, plagiarism, academic falsification, intellectual property dishonesty, academic dishonesty facilitation, and collusion. The use of online math solvers with submitted work is considered academic dishonesty. Faculty members may document and bring charges against a student who is engaged in or is suspected to be engaged in academic dishonesty. Consequences for academic dishonesty may include:
- Zero on the assignment
- Failing grade for the course
Attendance Policy:

Withdrawal Policy
A student may withdraw from a course on or after the official date of record. It is the student’s responsibility to initiate and complete a Withdrawal Request Form.
Last day to withdraw from a 16-week course with a “W” is: Monday, November 6, 2023

Follett ACCESS is a partnership between the NCTC Bookstore and Pearson Education to provide the best learning resources on the first day of class. Students can gain access to Pearson’s adaptive online platform with the latest version of the eBook at a discount. If students would like to purchase a physical copy of the textbook, they can order it through the bookstore.
Students who drop before the add/drop date will have their book fees credited back to their student account, and students who remain in the course will be charged a materials fee by the school to have continued access of the online platforms. If you remain enrolled in the course but wish to opt-out of access to the book please email the NCTC Bookstore within the first two weeks of class with your name and student number to 1263mgr@follett.com.
