Course Description (NCTC Catalog): Intended for Non STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) majors. Topics include introductory treatments of sets and logic, financial mathematics, probability and statistics with appropriate applications. Number sense, proportional reasoning, estimation, technology, and communication should be embedded throughout the course. Additional topics may be covered.

Grade Scale: 90 – 100% = A; 80 – 89% = B; 70 – 79% = C; 60 – 69% = D; Below 60% = F
Your participation grade is a measure of your active participation in class. Active participation in and attention to class discussions and class work, viewing assigned videos, researching information and timely completion of work are considered in this category.
Instead of a general homework set for each section covered, each student will have a study plan. Progress through the study plan is mastery based. To confirm mastery, students will use the Quiz me feature in their study plan. For each objective a student must answer 2 out of the 3 questions posed when using Quiz Me to earn mastery. Students may also use the Practice feature within the study plan for additional practice.
Quizzes
Each week one or more online quizzes will be due by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday. You may make 3 attempts for each quiz. The highest score out of all attempts will be counted. The weekly quizzes (usually 8 – 12 questions total) will cover the section(s) of the text that were assigned that week. It is recommended that you attempt quizzes without notes to practice test conditions.
Tests
There will be 4 unit tests. All tests are weighted equally. There are no make-up exams, for missed exams and students may not re-take an exam for any reason. However, students may elect to take a comprehensive exam at the end of the semester to replace a missed exam.

ATTENDANCE POLICY
Regular and punctual attendance is expected of all students in all classes for which they have registered. Students should prepare for class by bringing writing implements and a calculator to every class, in addition to any assigned work. All absences are considered to be unauthorized unless the student is absent due to illness or emergencies. It is the student’s responsibility to provide documentation as to the emergency for approval by the faculty member. Approved college-sponsored activities are considered excused absences. The instructor is responsible for judging the validity of any reason given for an absence. Valid reasons for absence, however, do not relieve the student of the responsibility for completing required work. A student will be dropped from a class by the Registrar upon recommendation of the instructor who feels the student has been unjustifiably absent or tardy a sufficient number of times to preclude meeting the course’s objectives. Persistent, unjustified absences from classes will be considered sufficient cause for College officials to drop a student from the rolls of the College. From Board Policy FC (LOCAL)
There are no make-up tests. The final exam score may be used to replace the lowest unit test score.
