OFFICE HOURS                                          TIME AND LOCATION: TBD

Each week instructors have time set aside to meet with students outside of class. This is a time when a student may ask questions regarding the class, or discuss a particular problem/topic with an instructor one-on-one.  Some office hours will be held online this semester.  Students can schedule an appointment with their instructor by selecting the Cisco Webex option in Canvas and navigating to the “Office Hour” tab.  The times that the instructor is available will be displayed there and a student may schedule a meeting by choosing a time and selecting “Confirm Meeting” at the bottom of the page.

MATH LAB (TUTORING CENTER)

Students who need help with any math class can visit the NCTC Mathematics Lab to receive assistance.  No appointments are necessary.  See the most current tutoring hours for all campuses at http://www.nctc.edu/student-services/student-success/tutoring/mathematics-lab.html.

COURSE POLICIES

ATTENDANCE

Attendance will be taken even though this is an online course.  Each week you will need to click on 'Qwickly Attendance' on the left hand menu of our course. Then check in for the week to have your attendance recorded. Your attendance also requires that you submit at least one assignment for the week. So if you check in but don't do any work, I will change your attendance record to absent for that week.

HOMEWORK/ACTIVITIES

Homework will be assigned through MyLab Math.  LATE WORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.  Students are to sign up for MyLab immediately to complete homework in a timely fashion.  Instructions for connect to MyLab are found in Canvas and below.  Throughout the week, students will also be assigned activities in Canvas which will be included in the homework category of the grading outline.

QUIZZES

Quizzes will be taken online either via MyLab or in Canvas, or will be a mini project.  Scientific calculators will be allowed on the quiz.  No graphing calculator or the use of notes are allowed during quizzes. Quizzes taken in MyLab or Canvas are timed (typically 30 – 60 minutes) and you will be allowed ONE attempt per quiz.  If you close out of the quiz window for any reason, the quiz will stop and will be graded as is, so please be careful!  You may not stop, pause, or re-open any quiz once it is started.  Unless otherwise stated, quizzes are to be taken on an individual basis – no working in groups or with a tutor during the quiz.  Think of these as if you were taking a quiz in an in-person class.  Late quizzes will not be accepted unless given prior approval from the instructor.  Please contact instructor with any question or issue that may arise when taking a quiz.

EXAMS

Your tests must be taken in a proctored setting, such as at an NCTC testing center. That means that you will be supervised - you cannot take your test at home on your computer! Even though this course is online, TESTS ARE TAKEN ON CAMPUS OR WITH AN APPROVED OUTSIDE PROCTOR.  Makeup exams will be given ONLY if the student has an excused absence and contacts the instructor BEFORE the scheduled exam date. Documentation is required to excuse an absence.

Students will have a maximum of ONE WEEK after exam dates to make up any exams, and it is the student’s responsibility to contact the instructor to schedule a makeup exam.

The Final Exam score counts for itself but can also be used to replace one missing or low-test score, however, nothing will replace the final exam score.

Exam 2 – Week 10: Mar 28 - Apr 3

Exam 3 – Week 14: April 25 - May 1

NCTC POLICIES and STATEMENTS

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY POLICY

Scholastic dishonesty shall include, but is not limited to cheating, plagiarism, academic falsification, intellectual property dishonesty, academic dishonesty facilitation, and collusion.  The use of online math solvers with submitted work is considered academic dishonesty.  Faculty members may document and bring charges against a student who is engaged in or is suspected to be engaged in academic dishonesty.  See Student Handbook, “Student Rights & Responsibilities: Student Code of Conduct ([FLB(LOCAL)]”.   Consequences for academic dishonesty may include: 1. Zero on the assignment, or 2. Failing grade for the course.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Regular and punctual attendance is expected of all students in all classes for which they have registered. All absences are considered to be unauthorized unless the student is absent due to illness or emergencies. It is the student’s responsibility to provide documentation as to the emergency for approval by the faculty member. Approved college-sponsored activities are also excused absences. The instructor is responsible for judging the validity of any reason given for an absence. Valid reasons for absence, however, do not relieve the student of the responsibility for making up required work. Students will not be allowed to make up an examination missed due to absence unless the absence is documented and excused by the instructor. Student will be dropped from a class by the Registrar upon recommendation of the instructor who feels the student has been justifiably absent or tardy a sufficient number of times to preclude meeting the course’s objectives. Persistent, unjustified absences from classes or laboratories will be considered sufficient cause for college officials to drop a student from the rolls of the College. From Board Policy FC (LOCAL)

WITHDRAWAL POLICY

A student may withdraw from a course on or after the official date of record. It is the student’s responsibility to initiate and complete a Withdrawal Request Form.  Last day to withdraw from a course with a “W” is Monday, April 4, 2022.
