Important Information
You should keep notes of your activities each day of your cooperative. At the end of each month, you will then compile your notes into a summary of your monthly activities. The summary should include a description of the duties, activities, and events of the week, as well as a summary of what you have learned over the course of the month. The summary should be at 3-5 pages typed, double-spaced pages, Arial 12 pt. font.
Once you begin your cooperative contact hours, monthly journals must be submitted no later than 11:00 p.m. the last day of the month by uploading them in a dropbox in CANVAS. Some months will be shorter than others. For example August and December.
The monthly journal should describe your cooperative experience for the month. If you did not have cooperative hours for a week, you should still note that in the journal and explain why you did not report to your assignment. Late journals will be penalized.
A 3-credit cooperative requires 240 hours at your cooperative placement. All cooperative contact hours must be completed one week before the final exam begins. Timesheets reflecting your contact hours at your cooperative should be completed daily, logging the number of hours worked and submitted monthly. Each timesheet needs to be signed by your immediate supervisor or the cooperative coordinator at your workplace. Once you begin your cooperative contact hours, monthly timesheets must be submitted via scanned and uploaded in the dropbox in CANVAS. If you did not complete any cooperative hours the previous week, you still need to submit a timesheet the following Sunday reflecting zero hours (no supervisor signature required for this). Late timesheets will be penalized (see below).
You will complete a term paper about your experiences in the program. The text of the term paper (excluding title page or references) should be 8-10 typed, double-spaced pages, in a 12 pt. font.
In the first section of the paper, you should summarize the activities and major events that you experienced while completing your program. The second section should be a critique of the cooperative itself. Was it a good, marginal, or poor experience? How well did the company where you worked to meet your expectations? In this section, you should assess both your cooperative experience and the workplace. In the final section, you should compare/contrast your educational knowledge with your field experience. How did the cooperative match what you learned in school and how did it vary from your academic understanding of the work and field? How well did your educational experience prepare you for fieldwork? What was most surprising about your field work experience? Did the cooperative experience confirm your career plans or change them and why? Your paper should include a cover/title page. You only need to include a reference page if you cite/refer to outside material in the text of your paper. The term paper should be submitted the Sunday before the first day of finals in CANVAS.
Your supervisor will evaluate you at the end of your cooperative. We will provide a formal evaluation form to your supervisor for this purpose and will encourage your supervisor to meet with you regarding your performance during your cooperative. We will e-mail your supervisor the evaluation form, using the contact information you have provided on your enrollment form. Your supervisor will fax or email a copy of the completed evaluation to your instructor. You should not handle this evaluation form at any time. It must be emailed directly to the instructor from the workplace supervisor.
Meeting with the Completion Center
You must visit the completion center twice before completing the cooperative. The purpose of visiting the Completion Center is to discuss the following: 1. Resume, 2. Personal Statement, 3. Interview techniques, 4. Career Opportunities/Choices. When you submit your final paper, you must also submit a signed document from the Completion Center to verify your visits, an updated resume, and an updated personal statement.
Have a great experience!
