LAST DATE TO WITHDRAW

November 8, 2018

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Regular and punctual attendance is expected of all students in all classes for which they have registered.  All absences are considered to be unauthorized unless the student is absent due to illness or emergencies as determined by the instructor.  It is the student responsibility to provide documentation as to the emergency for approval and judgement by the faculty member.  Approved college sponsored activities are the only absences for which a student should not be held liable and only when provided by a college official ahead of the absence.  Valid reasons for absence, however, do not relieve the student of the responsibility for making up required work.  Students will not be allowed to make up an examination missed due to absence unless they have reasons acceptable to the instructor.  A student who is compelled to be absent when a test is given should petition the instructor, in advance if possible, for permission to postpone the exam.  Student will be dropped from a class by the Registrar upon recommendation of the instructor who feels the student has been justifiably absent or tardy a sufficient number of times to preclude meeting the course’s objectives.    Persistent, unjustified absences from classes or laboratories will be considered sufficient cause for College officials to drop a student from the rolls of the College. From Board Policy FC (LOCAL)

OTHER POLICIES AND PERTINENT INFORMATION

Announcements as Emails/Texts!

When the instructor needs to communicate with the entire class at once, an announcement will be posted in Canvas.  Students can choose to receive instructor announcements via texts and/or emails.  To activate this setting, go to your Canvas account, go to “settings”, and under “ways to contact,” enter in how you would like to receive communications (text and/or email).  This is highly recommended.  Failing to read announcements is no excuse for being unprepared.

Dress Code

Students taking the cooperative education class are not only representing the NCTC Horticulture Program but are also being perceived/judged on an individual basis by their employers as well as the public. Certain jobs may require a uniform.  If a uniform is not specified, be prepared to dress professionally.  An example of professional gardening attire is: khaki work trousers/nice jeans/long khaki shorts or capris, a tucked-in button-down shirt or a short-sleeved polo-style shirt, a belt, and sturdy work boots.  Examples of inappropriate work attire:  jeans with holes, t-shirts with inappropriate logos, clothes that are immodest or ill-fitting, etc.  You are not required to purchase a book for this class – please purchase professional work clothes instead.
