Course description: This course is a survey of institutional and non-institutional corrections. Emphasis will be placed on the organizations and operation of correctional systems, treatment, and rehabilitation; populations served; Constitutional issues; and current and future issues.

Course prerequisites: None

Required course materials: Corrections Today, (4th ED.) by Larry Siegel and Clemens Bartollas (With MindTap). You must purchase the MindTap access code. This can be done by purchasing the book and the access code from the bookstore, OR it can be purchased directly from the Cengage website. The textbook is included digitally with the MindTap access, so you do not need to purchase or rent the book unless you want it. WARNING – If you choose to purchase a book or rent a book, failure to use this edition is at your own risk.

Late work policy:        

There is no extra credit available. Your grade will be based on the above graded elements listed. There are no makeup assignments. If you miss an exam for a documented approved medical reason, you will be allowed to complete the exam.

COURSE POLICIES

 

Academic Integrity Policy:

Scholastic dishonesty shall include, but is not limited to cheating, plagiarism, academic
falsification, intellectual property dishonesty, academic dishonesty facilitation and
collusion.  Consequences for academic dishonesty may include:
1) The student will receive a failing grade of "O" on the assignment. If the assignment is within a
group in which the lowest assignment is dropped, the assignment will not be able to count as a
dropped score. It will count as part of the grade.
2) A "Scholastic Dishonesty Report Form" will be submitted regarding the incident
3) Student may be dropped from the course with a failing grade (letter grade of “F”)

 

 

Attendance Policy:

Attendance for this class will be demonstrated by your completion of assignments.

Withdrawal Policy

A student may withdraw from a course on or after the official date of record. It is the student’s responsibility to initiate and complete a Withdrawal Request Form.

Last day to withdraw from the course with a “W” is April 4, 2022
