Course Description (NCTC Catalog):
This course is a study of the court system as it applies to the structures, procedures, practices, and sources of law in American Courts, using federal and Texas statutes and can case law.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of the semester, you will be able to:
- Describe the American judicial systems (civil, criminal, and juvenile), their jurisdiction, development and structure. (Chapters 1 and 17)
- Analyze the function and dynamics of the courtroom work group. (Chapters 5, 6 and 7)
- Identify judicial processes from pretrial to appeal. (Chapters 1 and 10)
- Describe the significant Constitutional Amendments, doctrines, and other sources of law in the American judicial system.(Chapter 2)
Course Competencies
- Explain the structure and roles of courtroom workgroup.
- Differentiate between the roles of the prosecutor, the defense, and the judges.

This is an online class. Your attendance is documented by the completion of assignments. It is important that you log in regularly and stay on task for this course. If you feel you cannot complete the course, it is your responsibility to drop. If you do not complete the work successfully and fail to drop this course, you will receive an F.
