ATTENDANCE POLICY

Regular and punctual attendance is expected of all students in all classes for which they have registered.  All absences are considered to be unauthorized unless the student is absent due to illness or emergencies as determined by the instructor.  It is the student responsibility to provide documentation as to the emergency for approval and judgement by the faculty member.  Approved college sponsored activities are the only absences for which a student should not be held liable and only when provided by a college official ahead of the absence.  Valid reasons for absence, however, do not relieve the student of the responsibility for making up required work.  Students will not be allowed to make up an examination missed due to absence unless they have reasons acceptable to the instructor.  A student who is compelled to be absent when a test is given should petition the instructor, in advance if possible, for permission to postpone the exam.  Student will be dropped from a class by the Registrar upon recommendation of the instructor who feels the student has been justifiably absent or tardy a sufficient number of times to preclude meeting the course’s objectives.    Persistent, unjustified absences from classes or laboratories will be considered sufficient cause for College officials to drop a student from the rolls of the College. From Board Policy FC (LOCAL)

As an accelerated hybrid class we will have course work twice a week for eight weeks only. One of those sessions will be face to face (on Monday) and the other online. Illustrator is a skill best taught in hand- on instruction so the first three weeks of face to face classes and are mandatory – and every effort should be made to attend all other face to face classes. The second class each week will be online and assignment/project driven. Assignments online are due by 11.59 p.m. on each Sunday – this includes all quizzes. Video Projects must be completed also by 11:59 Sunday which are a series of required exercises demonstrated in the assigned videos. Skills based courses build one class to the next. Absences can disrupt the learning process, and missing any two face to face meetings can warrant a failing grade.  Students should always notify the teacher by email in advance of an absences, if possible - and if not, then immediately afterwards for assignment information.  Attendance is mandatory for the final exam/last class.  Not being present for the final exam – even if the exam/project is submitted – will warrant a deduction of 10 points to the overall grade which would be a letter grade. (For instance, if student currently has a B and does not attend the final day, they would end up with a C instead.)

Last day to Withdraw

The last day to withdraw from a course with a “W” is April 25, 2019. The teacher will NOT automatically withdraw a non-attending student, that must be done by the student by the date listed above.
